The Dead Sea

The Dead Sea is situated on the south of Israel bordering with the Jordan, and is at the lowest point on the globe, about 400 meters (1300 feet) below sea level. It was formed millions of years ago when the African earthquake took place. Salty water erupted during that quake to form the sea, since known as the Dead Sea. Underground hot springs that exist in the area still to-date keep flowing into the Dead Sea. These keep the source of the minerals feeding into the Sea continuously, in addition to the enormous quantities of minerals which formed the Dead Sea originally. Many of the mountains around the Dead Sea are actually mountains of salts and minerals which prove the origin of the eruption of these minerals during the earthquake.

In the Old Testaments we read of the wife of Lot. Looking back while running away from the city of Sodom, as punishment, had turned her into a body of salt. This is additional proof of the existence of these minerals in the old days.

The depth of the area forms unique atmospheric conditions of sun rays, higher oxygen concentration, relatively high temperature and low humidity. This results in very high water  evaporation rates, and rising concentration of the minerals. There are over 20 minerals such as Calcium, Sodium, Magnesium, Potassium, Bromides, Sulfur, Chlorides etc. More organic material, in addition, is flowing from the Springs known as the Dead Sea Mud.

All these minerals and Mud have proven very beneficial on human skin, in addition to excellent healing effects on various skin ailments. Based on these findings, many skin health resorts were established in the area for rejuvenation and health, where people take salt baths and mud treatments with excellent results for skin ailments as Psoriasis, Acne, Rheumatic pains and others.

Based on these results, full scale research and development studies were undertaken to deliver the Dead Sea water and mud to people who are away from the Dead Sea. To give them the benefit of utilizing the properties of these materials, a full range line of cosmetic products were developed by Lon Cosmetics, the pioneers and original developers of cosmetics from the Dead Sea.
